This year I continue the journey of trying new things, going to new places and being open to experiences. What is new, is I will record it...

Delicious smells wafting out from the kitchen…. Here’s hoping our first attempt at brownies taste as good as they smell!!!

I tell you, it’s been a few days of firsts, and while it ended in a really crap first… I have to remind myself of all the good ones.

First: flight with both kids - Charli has never been on a plane and boy did she loveit. In fact when we landed her words were “do it again!”.
Was also a first travelling with just mum and the kids, and really enjoyed it!

First: cable cars in Wellington, while very cool not quite what I expected but we enjoyed it anyways

First: kilbournie and stains (a shop much like smith and caughy) but wow a whole sweet shop- yum! Best thing I tried was lemon and Russian fudge (yum) and again a first heh

First: te papa’s new exhibits- and their ‘ride’

First: transport! Catching the airport bus , going under some huge one lane only tunnels.
Catching the train to first plimberton (where we nearly got blown away) and then to waikanae. Again- 8-9 tunnels in the train and some breathtakingly beautiful views of the ocean.

First: missing a flight

First…. Oh yes you heard me right we missed our bloody flight!!!! We were at the airport in plenty of time, checked in, had dinner, tries to find gate 21 could only find gates up to 19… Rechecked and same result. Heard the intercom call people boarding flight rah rah to Auckland at gate 17 and rebooked at ticket and saw 17 so headed there. Went thru scanner, had tickets glanced at then settled in to wait. After a long while (and hearing different passengers being called on intercom- none us) got the call for boarding at our gate, but err not our flight. Took tickets up and nope we were at the wrong gate. Did the mad sprint to other end of airport with 2 kids and a million carry on bags to glance up an see final call on the screens. Phew! Thru scanner again to be told stop you can’t now go in why not? Gates just closed. Right this second. Too late.
Ok, so yes our fault- completely- but where was our intercom call? (Apparently jetstar don’t do that)

Soo….. No more flights tonight on any airline. All fully booked. No overnight busses or trains. A nice hefty charge to rebook tomorrow… But wait where to stay???
Anzac tomorrow and 90% accomodation full and town no good because apparently they close it for the parades…
Anyways lucky some lovely lady at the airport motel bent the rules- and we’re all going to get cuddly in a twin bed along with a mattress on the floor - thank goodness.

Right debriefed and destressed… Time for a wine from the minibar… Oh yes look another first…

See you tomorrow auckland!!!

Relaxing in the hotel room watching Rio… None of us have walked so much.. Sore tootsies!

First- being fire evacuated from the hotel lucky we were awake funny seeing everyone in their nighties tho!!!!

My dear daughters 3rd birthday today- she is such a total Girly girl at the moment so we thought we would embrace it and take her, jack and her best friend to the mall for manicures and making their own spa treatments. They just loved it- what a stress free way to spend the day. Awwww so weird to have my wee girl growing up, but so exciting seeing her changing personality and quirks. Love her to bits!!!

First time making beef and lentil bolognaise and it was yum! Was also a hit with the kids who have never had lentils and hate celery (which is in it) so bonus! I think it will stay on the menu and ill slowly phase out the meat. Yay to new success recipes!
